Andy Muschietti Defends The Flash, Despite Mixed Reception and Box Office Performance

The Flash, despite early buzz and high expectations, underperformed at the box office, grossing only $271.4 million worldwide and receiving mixed reviews. In an interview with The Playlist, director Andy Muschietti addressed the film's disappointing performance and the negative reception it received.
"A lot of people didn't see it," he said. "But it's interesting how people tend to talk a lot about movies they haven't seen, and they jump on bandwagons. They don't always understand the context. People's anger is often unrelated to the film itself."
Muschietti acknowledged the impact of the Ezra Miller controversy, which caused a publicity crisis. "Of course, we had a significant issue with Ezra, and I'm not denying that. But we're proud of the movie. It's a good film, and we recommend it."
The director also highlighted the studio's support during the release, despite the challenges. "The studio stood by us, even when they could have backed out due to the publicity issues. They went all in, and we did too."
While some critics found flaws in The Flash, Muschietti believes it has its merits. "I never thought it was all that bad. The CGI was distracting, and the third act could have been better. But Ezra Miller gave it their all, and it was exciting to see Michael Keaton as Batman again."
Looking ahead, Muschietti is set to continue working on the DC Universe, with The Brave and the Bold movie in development. The project is progressing slowly, but James Gunn has teased a compelling story for Batman's next adventure.
